University of Ulster Selects SunGard Higher Education to Deliver Unified Digital Campus

High Wycombe, UK - February 28th, 2007 — The University of Ulster has begun phase one of a fully integrated digital campus, based on SunGard Higher Education solutions, in order to provide improved services for potential applicants, students, faculty, and staff.

SunGard Higher Education is helping the university build and roll out a fully integrated information solution that will improve the service to potential applicants, offer a web based self service portal that will give students, faculty and staff easier access to vital information, and provide very powerful analytical tools that will allow the University better to deliver on key institutional objectives.

"We had found that our existing in-house developed systems were no longer meeting our needs,” says University of Ulster Pro-Vice Chancellor Norman Black. “There was a lack of integration between our various applications, which meant we had no single interface to allow people access to the information they needed, when they needed it. We selected SunGard Higher Education to help us build a 21st century digital campus that will deliver improved value to our applicants, students, faculty, and staff.”

As part of phase one, applicants to postgraduate and part-time courses are able to apply online and can monitor the progress of their applications online. More information can be collected than previously with paper application forms. Offers can also be sent to applicants via email. The new system is more convenient for most applicants and allows a much swifter response from faculty selectors as postal delays and central keying of data is avoided. This is particularly helpful to those applicants who apply close to the start of the academic year. Links from the online prospectus to self-service admissions have been developed enabling prospective students seeking information on courses to apply directly from a course entry in the prospectus.

Concludes Professor Black: “We are committed to improving the quality of the technology provided to our students, faculty and staff and we believe SunGard Higher Education will help us accomplish that objective. With the successful completion of phase one, we are very pleased with the performance of the new system to date and we look forward to SunGard Higher Education’s further assistance as we roll out the next phases of the project.”
